Let's clarify the terms

There are many people who have opinions about ticket and freight prices, and we understand that pricing engages many

The framework for the prices that Gotlanders pay and the fees that companies pay to transport goods is determined in our agreement with Trafikverket. By having requirements for Ceiling and Max price in the agreement, Trafikverket can be sure that Gotlanders' prices do not exceed a certain level

At the same time, the agreement is not entirely easy to understand, so here we try to clarify some of the terms: The Max price is the simplest. It is the highest price a one-way ticket for an adult Gotlander may cost. In 2026 the Max price is 436 kronor. In 2025, 90 percent of Gotlanders paid less than 371 kronor

The next term is the Ceiling price. It sets a ceiling for the average of all tickets sold to Gotlanders during the year. Each year we report all tickets sold to Trafikverket and at the same time calculate the average price. During 2026 the average price must not exceed 327 kronor

Now to the last term, the Average price. It is the average for Gotlanders' tickets and must always be below the Ceiling price. In 2025 the average price was 254 kronor across all tickets and thus was below the Ceiling price, which was 323 kronor

You might not recognize the average price for last year. That may be because we give discounts to, for example, schoolchildren and sports clubs, which affects the average price. If we instead look only at full-paying adults, the average in 2025 was 305 kronor

Terms in brief

  • Max price – A single ticket may never cost more than 436 kronor for Gotlanders (2026)
  • Price cap – The average price for Gotlanders must not exceed 327 kronor (2026)
  • Average price – The price that Gotlanders have paid on average during the year – 254 kronor (2025)
