Destination Gotland continuously works on safety matters and the vessels are equipped with modern technology and equipment that meet the very latest requirements for maritime safety 

Safety is a priority

The equipment is regularly checked according to established maintenance routines. At least once a year the Swedish Transport Agency carries out an inspection of our safety procedures and an examination of the vessels.

Regular safety exercises

The vessels have a safety organisation in which each member of the crew has a fixed, practised role in the event of an emergency. The aim of the safety organisation is to prevent follow-on effects resulting from accidents or other incidents. The crew is divided into safety teams for command, firefighting, mustering, evacuation and medical care. Weekly exercises are mandatory. Each year large-scale exercises are carried out in cooperation with, for example, the Fire and Rescue Service, rescue helicopter services, the Coast Guard, local hospitals and others. By evaluating safety exercises as well as real incidents, we continuously improve our safety organisation.

The onshore organisation also has preparedness for a potential crisis situation – the incident organisation. Various onshore groups assist the vessels in taking care of passengers and crew in the event of a crisis. In an emergency the alarm goes to the incident organisation, which is immediately convened and provides the vessel with help and support. The onshore organisation performs its tasks according to an established emergency preparedness plan.
