Book assistance before the trip

If you need help boarding or disembarking, assistance must be booked no later than 48 hours before departure. That way we can plan the trip and give you the best possible help in the terminal and on board.

Assistance can, for example, be help from the meeting point in the terminal to the ship. On arrival you can receive help from the ship to the terminal's meeting point.

Assistance is free of charge when it has been booked according to the instructions.

Are you traveling by car and need a space near a lift on the car deck? Indicate that when you book the trip. The number of spaces near lifts is limited.

Companion and personal assistance

If you need personal assistance for the whole trip you need to travel together with a companion. The companion helps you in the terminal and on board.

The companion travels free of charge when you can show a certificate that proves the need for an assistant or assistance. The certificate must be shown at check-in.

A ticket for the companion is booked via customer service.

In certain cases Destination Gotland may require a companion to accompany you. This applies if it is necessary for the trip to be carried out safely.

When can a booking be refused?

In some cases we may need to refuse a booking if the trip cannot be carried out safely. This can, for example, concern the layout of the ship or the terminal making boarding, travel or disembarking unsafe.

If this happens we will help you review possible alternatives.

Accessible cabins

On board there is a limited number of cabins adapted for travellers with disabilities or reduced mobility.

If you travel with a personal companion we can, subject to availability, help book the companion's cabin near yours.

In the terminal

In each terminal there is a staffed check-in desk for travellers who need assistance. The desk is marked with the ISA symbol, the international wheelchair symbol.

If you need assistance you must be at the marked meeting point no later than 60 minutes before the ship's departure.

The meeting point is marked with the ISA symbol and has a call button. You can use it to contact staff.

If necessary, staff can help you with luggage from the meeting point to the ship's departure hall and on board, or to luggage trolleys.

Please note that the distance from the terminal's entrances and exits to the ships can be up to 500 metres

If you travel by car

If you travel by car and have reduced mobility you need to indicate your need for assistance when booking the trip.

You should be at car check-in no later than 60 minutes before the ship's departure. Then we have a better chance to place the car near a lift on the car deck.

On the car deck there are a limited number of spaces near lifts where it is possible to get in and out of the vehicle with a wheelchair. Otherwise the car decks are not fully accessibility-adapted for people with reduced mobility.

If you use a wheelchair we recommend that you go to the transit hall via the vehicle ramps on land and board from there, instead of boarding via the car deck.

On board the ship

The information desk on board is open throughout the journey. There you can get more information and help if needed.

There are spare wheelchairs on board the ships.

Disembarkation

If you need assistance when disembarking it must be booked no later than 48 hours before departure.

On board there is a special meeting point near the information desk where the assistance begins. Staff will help you from the ship to the terminal's meeting point.

Mobility aids

You can bring mobility aids, for example a wheelchair, walker, electric wheelchair or electric scooter.

Destination Gotland has no general maximum dimensions or weight limits for wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs or electric scooters.

The ships are built to be accessible according to applicable regulations. It can still be tight in some places on board, for example in corridors, door openings, lifts or ramps.

You are allowed to use electric wheelchairs and electric scooters on board. However, it is not permitted to charge an electric wheelchair or electric scooter during the journey.

There are designated wheelchair spaces in the lounges.

Inform us when booking if you are travelling with a larger mobility aid or have special needs during boarding, disembarking or placement on board. Then we can plan the trip and assist you in the best possible way.

Guide and assistance dogs

Guide dogs and assistance dogs may accompany passengers free of charge on Destination Gotland's passenger ferries.

The dog must be trained for its task and wear a harness, coat or other clear marking that shows it is a guide or assistance dog.

Guide and assistance dogs are allowed in the areas on board where passengers stay.

Contact customer service before the trip if you are traveling with a guide or assistance dog. Then we can pass the information on to the ship.
