Disabilities or reduced mobility

Information for Destination Gotland’s passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility.

It is the ambition of Destination Gotland to make it possible for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility to use all public spaces on our vessels. 

Booking
If passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility are in need of continuous personal assistance the passengers must be accompanied by a person providing assistance on board and at the port terminals. Destination Gotland may request the help of assistants, if safety requirements are not met by the accompanying escorts.

The vessels have a limited number of cabins adapted for passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility. For personal assistants to passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility a cabin can be booked close to the disabled person’s cabin.

Destination Gotland reserves their right to refuse a reservation if safety requirements for embarking, travelling or disembarking cannot be guaranteed.

Passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility arriving at the vessel by car shall at the time of booking provide information about the need for assistance and shall arrive at the car check-in no later than 60 minutes before the vessel’s departure time. If check-in is done later, it may not be possible for passengers with disabilities or limited mobility to access the spaces available near elevators.

If a disabled or reduced-mobility passenger needs be assisted upon disembarkation such assistance must be booked no later than 48 hours before departure.

Before crossing/At the terminals
In each terminal there is a staffed check-in desk where disabled persons may make any arrangements necessary. The location is marked with the ISA symbol (the International Wheelchair Symbol). Passengers in need of assistance are requested to arrive 60 minutes before the vessel’s departure.

The meeting place, marked with the ISA symbol is provided with a call button to be used to get in touch with the staff.

Passengers with reduced mobility may, if needed, be helped by the staff to take their luggage from the meeting place to the vessel’s departure hall and further to the vessel or to luggage carts.

Passengers by car
Please note that the car decks are not primarily adapted for persons with limited mobility. On the car decks there are some spaces near elevators where it is possible to get in and out with a wheelchair.

Passengers with wheelchairs are recommended to get to the transit hall from the car area ashore and from there on board which would be the more comfortable way rather than boarding via the car deck.

On board
Passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility may get further information and assistance, if necessary, at the vessel’s information desk which is open throughout the trip.

Spare wheelchairs are available on board the vessels.

Leaving the vessel
There is a designated meeting place near the information desk on the vessel where assistance commences. Assistance will be provided from the vessel to the terminal’s meeting point. Assistance with disembarking must as mentioned above be booked no later than 48 hours prior to departure from the port of embarking.

In addition
Any complaints or comments regarding the trip shall be communicated to the information desk on board, or at the terminal, which will ensure that the complaint/comments are taken care of for further processing.

If the passenger’s facilities are damaged because of Destination Gotland’s negligence, the passenger will be compensated in accordance with the provisions of the EU Regulation.
